About half way between Knysna and Port Elizabeth, for most people, Plettenburg bay is the penultimate stop on their Garden route drive from Cape Town. A small town, Plettenburg bay is characterised by the beautiful scenery, sweeping golden beaches, and craggy mountains inland from the coastal plain.
Originally called Bahia Formosa (Beautiful Bay) by the early Portuguese settlers in South Africa, Plettenburg bay has established itself as a top tourist destination in recent years with its enviable mixture of natural beauty, perfect weather, and friendly people.
No matter what your interests are, the chances are that you will be well catered for in Plettenburg bay. The natural world is at its most diverse and beautiful, with a number of excellent national parks nearby - including the Robberg Nature Reserve on an isthmus just west of the town itself.
